Each new release of the micro.blog app I check to see whether it will post back here. Still disappointed. Still getting a “micropub error”. Still no idea if there’s anything I can do about it.

NYT vs Beppe Grillo: Is the clown an anti-vaxxer? Seems unlikely the NYT would get this wrong.

I’ve followed Tim Bray via RSS for what seems like forever. And I’m glad he’s committed to keep going. I wonder, though, whether he’ll see this comment of mine. If not, he needs to embrace at least a part of #indieweb just a little more.

In among the firehose of suggestions to someone wanting to know “why #indieweb” was this gem from Matthew Butterick, who sets out, at great but appropriate length, precisely what is wrong with Medium.

I’ve used his advice on Practical Typography before, on one of my sites; seeing it again, I think I need to spend some time making some more deliberate choices on the site I am currently gussying up.

From the annals of bokeh comes this: “As a native speaker of Japanese, I have to point out that ōtofōkasu (オートフォーカス) means “autofocus”, as in an AF camera. The romanization for “out-of-focus” would be autofōkasu (アウトフォーカス).”

Too perfect.

So interesting to read what @chrisaldrich has to say about the Seeing White podcast series. If somebody “born in South Carolina and then living in Georgia” can feel woefully ignorant, as I do, it reinforces what a great job John Biewen and his team are doing.

One door opens, another one shuts; cleaned up my RSS feed from here to remove photos, which weren’t being picked up anyway, only to discover that a quick and dirty fix elsewhere was far dirtier than I expected.

Good to learn this morning that blendle.com is now offering highlighting with sharing and export. Need to try it.

The swallows are back!

Just listened to @colinwalkers latest microcast. I’m not feeling the same excitement, perhaps because I wasn’t in on the birth of Twitter, but I am enjoying watching various social spaces evolve and I agree that each documenting our steps adds up to something bigger.

Also, although my photos from Instagram appear in the RSS feed here, they do not seem to be picked up at micro.blog.

Interesting that the Discovery page on micro.blog seems to change the order in which some people are presented. I hope eventually to be able to see who other people are following.

Micro.blog has so far failed to verify me; no idea why. I can see the rel=“me” links here and on the Mothership. Hey ho.

Just got my first advert on Instagram. Is there no hiding place? They’re not even asking for a ransom. Yet.

Not having any joy posting from microblog to here, nor following others from the app but that’s ok. No rush.

The global trade resource is almost as fascinating as the changing global diets website, with one huge proviso. The arrows go, roughly, from the centre of the exporting country to the centre of the importing country. That is, it completely ignores the reality of containerisation, which has had such a massive impact on food systems and much else besides. There’s a new podcast series about it, called Containers, by Alexis Madrigal.

So, there I am on micro.blog. I suppose I better verify my url next. Looks good, but not entirely intuitive yet. Early days though.
